The Function of Axle
The main function of the axle is to transmit the forces in all directions between the frame and the wheels, as well as the bending moments and torque they produce. The axle is connected to the suspension and the frame (or integral body) through the suspension, and the wheels are installed at both ends, thus transferring the vertical load, rolling resistance, driving force, braking force, and lateral force of the body to the wheels. In addition, the axle bears the weight of the body and is an important part of the vehicle's suspension system.
The types of axles include integral and disconnected types. The integral axle is a rigid solid or hollow beam (axle) in the middle, usually used with non-independent suspension; while the disconnected axle is an articulated joint structure and used with independent suspension. According to the different forms of the outer end support, the axle can also be divided into semi-floating, 3/4 floating, and full floating types, which differ in structure and use conditions and are suitable for different types of vehicles.
